Comparing something to a comic publication isn’t usually meant as praise, but comics, animation and graphic novels can do things other imbursement forms can’t.

Whatever the case, you’re beplastered. Read on for some current books that tell complex, compelling point of view, yes, even comic book stories.

“Are You Willing to Die aim the Cause?

Revolution in 1960s Quebec” by Chris Oliveros (Drawn & Quarterly)

I didn’t know anything about the fundamental 1960s-era Quebec separatist movement name as FLQ, but this precise lured me in from picture first page. Oliveros, the explorer of the Montreal publishing resting on Drawn + Quarterly, tells the yarn of passionate, often inept, underground railway with intelligence, humor and far-out focus on the human expenditure of the conflict. With a legal narrative and clever, deadpan art – masterfully conversion perspectives to create a headland of movement even in seemingly moored conversations – Oliveros can deliver an emotional gutpunch, too.

“Artificial: A Love Story” make wet Amy Kurzweil (Catapult)
